This year, ISLS is offering a limited number of scholarships using funds from the Wallace Foundation and ISLS to support students and scholars who otherwise would not be able to attend the ISLS Annual Meeting 2021 (June 7 – 11, 2021), held online. For students, the scholarships will cover early registration costs (and if needed, annual student-rate membership dues for 2021). For faculty, postdocs, and other postgraduate researchers, the scholarships will only cover early registration costs. These scholarship funds are intended to assist individuals facing financial challenges this year and to broaden participation in the learning sciences community (particularly from historically underrepresented populations). Please share this announcement with colleagues, peers, and students who may be interested in attending ISLS 2021.
Those eligible for conference scholarships include:
- Students, who submitted a contribution to any of the conference categories (paper, poster, symposium, pre-conference workshop proposal, interactive tools & demos proposal) for ISLS 2021.
- Scientists (i.e., non-students) conducting research in learning sciences who live and work in nations and regions that have been historically underrepresented at prior ISLS conferences (e.g., ICLS, CSCL).
- First-time conference attendees facing significant financial hardship who do not have access to other third-party funding sources (such as research or travel grants or institutional funds).
The number of scholarships awarded will depend on total available funding from the Wallace Foundation and the International Society of the Learning Sciences. Applications will be considered in the order that they are received until March 23, 2021 or when all funds have been exhausted. If your scholarship application is successful, you will receive a coupon that will cover the conference fee as you register for the ISLS Annual Meeting 2021.
Conference registration fees that have already been paid cannot be reimbursed through scholarship funds. Please note the scholarship includes a waiver for conference fee only and it does not include membership dues.
Review process:
Applications will be reviewed and evaluated by the ISLS 2021 Membership Committee. For any questions, please write to the Co-Chair Toshio Mochizuki (tmochi [at] mochi-lab.net)
