Workshop Description

This workshop will convene a variety of perspectives on the implementation and research of classroom orchestration in authentic environments, which can present many challenges, but also opportunities. Attendees will hear from researchers, practitioners, and industry stakeholders about their experiences of implementing and researching devices meant to ease orchestration load for educators. And, in turn, we hope to elicit learnings not just about device implementation and research methods, but the implications of the concept of classroom orchestration for diverse stakeholders, including teachers.

Expected Audience

There are two Classroom Orchestration workshops on offer during ISLS, and we hope folks will consider signing up for both of them. The first, “Teacher Orchestration Load: What is it and how can we lower the burden”, focuses on what orchestration load is and in what ways it can be lowered by means of teacher supporting tools. The second, “AI-Assisted Classroom Orchestration: Design Conjectures and Research Opportunities”, focuses more on the actual implementation of teacher supporting tools and incorporates multiple perspectives (i.e., teacher, researcher, designer). 

After ISLS, we will team up to create shared output. Our hope is to generate a product that will help drive the research agenda on Classroom Orchestration moving forward, perhaps in a white paper or special issue proposal.
